Material Behavior in Hot Stamping

This course summarizes all essential material aspects in a one-day compact training, specially designed for hot stamping of manganese-boron steels. The content focuses not only on the metallurgical aspects (phase transformation) but also on the metal forming related topics (flow curves, r-values). After completing this course, the participants will gain insight into the hardening mechanism, phase transformation and mechanical behavior of the sheet metal during heating, forming and quenching.

Training covers following topics:

  • Introduction to hot stamping technology and modelling of hot stamping
  • Elastic properties
  • Phases of steel and phase diagrams
  • Phase dependent flow curves as a function temperature and strain rate
  • Phase transformation, CCT and TTT diagrams
  • Temperature dependent r-values and FLCs
  • Material grades in hot stamping
  • Content of a material card

Audience

This one-day course is intended for process engineers, part designers and tool makers working in the field of hot stamping. Like all our fundamental trainings, this training is also open to all community. There are no pre-requisites. No AutoForm knowledge is needed since the training focuses on the fundamentals.
