Draw Die Development

This course deals with the basics of draw die development and process layout. It teaches basic rules and concepts to design draw die developments for outer and inner panels, and for structural reinforcements. Factors which influence the manufacturing process for a part are also covered.

Content:

  • Planning data from the press shop (press line, automation, batch size)
  • Classification of part geometry (outer skin/field of vision, lay-on surface, sealing surface)
  • Die face design:
    • effect of tip angle and blankholder design
    • addendum (trim, punch opening line, drawbars, take-up beads)
  • Process layout:
    • number of dies required
    • development of flanges
    • trim operations/scrap disposal
    • restrike and flanging operations
  • Integration of forming simulation

Audience

This two-day course is intended for process, stamping and manufacturing engineers, for tool designers (prototype and series production tools), and for press shop planners.
