AutoForm and Tebis Announce Cooperation

AutoForm Engineering and Tebis have announced a cooperation to provide their combined software solutions for the die-making industries. The two companies, both technology and market leaders in their fields, will cooperate in technology and sales for joint software development and implementation projects at clients.

Dr. Waldemar Kubli, CEO of AutoForm, explains, “The objective of this collaboration is to provide the best combination of technologies for the die-making industries. This will result in significant time savings, from layout and simulation of individual dies to die face design, manufacturing and die tryout. Tebis and AutoForm are offering their respective clients the increased productivity that results from the combined use of Tebis and AutoForm software, through joint consulting and implementation projects.”

The integrated AutoForm-Tebis workflow typically starts with the AutoForm-DieDesigner module. With this module, die faces are designed, taking into consideration press parameters and subsequent operations for trimming, flanging and restrike. Next, the die faces are checked and optimized with the AutoForm-Incremental module until the simulation results predict a robust drawing process. The output consists of FEM meshes and a wireframe structure that can be imported directly into Tebis through the direct interface, as can the original part geometry.

The Tebis RSC (Rapid Surface Creation) module then creates high-quality die surfaces, taking the user-defined distance to the AutoForm mesh into account. This produces trimmed and untrimmed surfaces with low segmentation, and tangential and constant-curvature transitions; the original part geometry remains unchanged. Finally, surface models created in Tebis are ready for immediate use to design individual die components in typical solids-based CAD systems. This eliminates the often time-consuming step of re-designing die surfaces in CAD systems.

“The method of using Tebis RSC to create die surfaces is an ideal complement to the AutoForm-DieDesigner technology. Process planners and die designers that use both AutoForm and Tebis software in combination, will benefit from improved CAE/CAD functionalities that result in significant time savings in the layout, design and modifications of their dies,” concluded Mr. Robert Cesak, President of Tebis AG.
