AutoForm-DieDesigner New Version 4.0

At EuroBLECH 2004 in Hannover, Germany (October 26-30), AutoForm will release a major upgrade to its AutoForm-DieDesigner software solution for rapid die face design and tooling optimization. New version 4.0 allows die engineers and tool makers to quickly create the tool design and die faces for secondary forming operations and to analyze the complete sheet metal forming process including springback.

According to Dr. Waldemar Kubli, CEO, AutoForm-Die Designer’s new features provide the following main benefits:

The users can create a complete tool design so rapidly – for example in 30 minutes to one hour – that they have enough time in a single day to develop and explore several different possible tool designs, and to find the best one.

The ability of version 4.0 to handle secondary forming operations means that users can create tool designs not only for deep drawing operations, but also for all subsequent forming and trimming operations. This is required for an accurate prediction of springback at the end of the entire process.

Process planners and designers who use the software can easily and efficiently create a 3D-Die-Layout of all the stamping operations (including restrike and flanging). Modifications to intermediate operations and even to the final part geometry are easy to make, and tooling geometries are automatically and instantly updated.

AutoForm-DieDesigner can automatically run tryout simulations of the 3D-Die-Layouts with Auto Form’s simulation modules, resulting in the 4D-Process-Layout, which reflects the time sequence of the forming process. This allows users to understand in depth and to validate the process layout as a function of time, including sheet behavior influenced by the different operations.

Thus, AutoForm-DieDesigner version 4.0 provides users with a “full process overview” of their sheet metal forming operations, and allows them to develop unique insights to improve process efficiency and tool and part quality. AutoForm-DieDesigner die faces can be reimported in the CAD system through direct interfaces or exported via STL interfaces for direct use in CAM systems (e.g. Tebis) and for milling of prototype tools.
